Tornadoes n shit.
Mar. 5th, 2020 12:37 amSo, if your news feed didn't carry it, Nashville got whacked by a tornado. Specifically, Germantown and the East Nashville area of Little Five Points. I was at work when the sumbitch touched down around the 28th Ave area and started moving north eastern-like. I was on an exterior door check with one of my fellow security guards when my phone went off, and the local weather blog I follow started a live broadcast on YouTube. I called to my fellow guard, and he hopped in the security truck, and we hauled it into the parking garage, and sheltered in the below-ground section. I have never felt safer in a severe weather situation. Seriously. It's like we were in a bunker.
And just as an aside, if you are local to, or around the metro Nashville area, check this exceptional weather blog out! These people more-than-likely saved lives that evening. During serious weather events, they will live stream on YouTube, with their backup on Periscope.
My sister's house, unfortunately, did not remain unscathed. Both supports for her porch got taken out, as did her windows, and her front bedroom she was using for AirBnB was water damaged. Sis and her pets are fine. I was able to get her the number of the guy who just re-did our roof. He and his crew were phenomenal, and not only did they work fast, they cleaned the site and actually left the grounds cleaner than when they arrived! I tried phoning her, but it went to voicemail. She's dealing with a lot right now, so I'm definitely not bitching here.
I had text messages and phone calls from friends all over asking if I was all right. I felt loved. Still kinda do.
The devastation in the tornado's 50.2 mile path of destruction was mind-blowing. Little Five Points is gone. All those shops, bars, and eateries were flattened. Germantown got straight-up fucked. A bunch of those fancy-schmancy hipster apartment buildings that had been built all of 5 - 6 years ago are now rubble. Somewhere, a real estate developer is crying into their drink. Last I had scene, there were 22 confirmed dead.

Our house fared well, since we live Northwest of Nashville in Goodlettsville. We live in a hollow (or as we are so fond of saying here in Tennessee, a holler.), so we're surrounded by hills on three sides. Tornadoes have a tendency to skip over us.
There is more to write, but it's late, and I have to be up early and adult.
Nitey.
